CAN JAM 2014
IS COMING
TO POTTSTOWN
Celebrate beer cans with an incredible day of free music… TOMORROW!

POTTSTOWN, PA – September 25, 2014 — Since moving into their 30,000 square foot production brewery two years ago, Sly Fox Brewing has hosted some great parties. Next year the über popular (voted Best Beer Festival in Philadelphia three years running) Sly Fox Bock Festival and Goat Races will be held at the Pottstown Brewery in May, and a cyclocross bike race is being planned for November. But the showcase event for the well-regarded craft beer maker is their day-long celebration of the can.
Cans are important to Sly Fox, one of the first craft breweries to heavily invest in their use over bottles, and the brewery has made significant efforts to promote the features and benefits of the humble beer can. Aluminum cans let less light and oxygen into beer, pack easier, they're infinitely recyclable…the list is so long that Sly Fox decided to throw a party to celebrate cans.
The Can Jam Free Music Festival, held on the last Saturday in September, showcases a day of live music that is "authentic and original, just like Sly Fox beer," according to Brewmaster Brian O'Reilly.
"We spend a lot of energy curating local talent to select just the right types of performers," adds O'Reilly, who first developed the idea to celebrate cans with a festival. "We think about the audience, what they like, who fits with the brewery ethos, and we make sure the acts fit together. We spend a lot of time organizing the Can Jam Festival and we're hopeful that flows into an enjoyable time for everyone who attends."
There are several day-long music festivals in the region, but none that offer a lineup of world-class, award-winning beers (Sly Fox currently cans eleven varieties) and a slate of local talent programmed specifically to offer a wide range of unique music.
"We hope that, like our beers, people become exposed to something new. Something they may not have searched out but will really love. That's our goal."
On September 27 at 2:00 p.m., Sly Fox Brewing Company will showcase five regional bands on the rise for a diverse day of music - and it's all free. Beer is pay-as-you-go, and the festival will feature two food trucks as well as the brewery's famous food.
American Babies, a critically-acclaimed Philadelphia-based, roots-rock experience that combines multiple influences, will headline the festival. The Whiskeyhickon Boys, a talented trio from Philadelphia will open the show with an energetic, creative mix of bluegrass and funk.
Other bands selected to represent Sly Fox beer and help festival goers celebrate the can include Shrimpboat, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based band featuring powerful vocals, tight harmonies, energizing grooves and a fresh approach to festival funk; Cheerleader, an indie rock/power pop outfit grabbing the region and the world by the ear drums; and Philadelphia's bold and magical Hoots & Hellmouth, a passionate, foot-stompin' folk-rock band with a loud and loyal fan base.
The food trucks vending at this year's Can Jam Free Music Festival include two of Pottstown's most popular, the Sunflower Truck Stop and the HEART Food Truck. The creative gourmet offerings from these two mobile units will be readily available to attendees, and will be complemented by Sly Fox's own popular pizza and barbecue offerings. There will even be fresh ice cream from Longacres Dairy at this family-friendly event.
"There is something for everyone," says O'Reilly. "This is one festival where everyone is pretty much guaranteed to have a great time."
The music at Can Jam 2014 kicks off at 2:00 p.m. on September 27 and will also celebrate Sly Fox Brewing Company beers in cans and on draught. The day will start at 9am with a sold-out Kan Jam tournament – a popular lawn game much like horseshoes played with flying discs. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and watch the fierce competition. Can Jam is a family-friendly event and 21+ identification is required to purchase beer.
