Bock Festival benefits SPCA
Phoenixville, PA -May 27, 2014 – Every year, on the first Sunday in May, the Sly Fox Brewing Company with brewery operations in Pottstown, PA and a brewpub in Phoenixville, PA, holds what is consistently called the Philadelphia region's best beer event.
The Bock Festival and Goat Races is a fourteen year tradition that has grown in size from a few dozen racers and a couple of goats to as many as 64 contenders with crowds estimated as high as 5000.
This year the Sly Fox Brewhouse and Eatery – where the spacious parking lot is converted to a German biergarten complete with large community drinking tents, a festive oompah band, traditional dancers and a giant fan-a-vision showing the goat races live – boasted the largest attendance to date. From 11am attendees enjoy specially brewed Bock beers and German food while watching goats race and enjoying a generally festive party atmosphere.
People come from all over the region– as far away as Seattle and San Francisco– to experience the Sly Fox Bock Festival and the unique goat races that have become legendary and given real prominence to East Pikeland Township where the festival is held. Many of the merchants in the shopping center where the festival is held have their single best retail day of the year thanks to the Festival.
Indeed, the Sly Fox Brewhouse and Eatery experiences a successful day when the weather cooperates during the event and, in 2014, the management team elected to name a beneficiary of the event presenting the Chester County SPCA with a check for $5000.
"The SPCA is closely related to our event," says partner Pete Giannopolous. "We've always stressed care and compassion for the goats first and foremost and we're all pet owners. This donation made sense."

The Sly Fox Brewing Company and Bock Festival always features a contingent of four legged attendees including goats and dogs and on-site veterinarians ensure all animals are treated with kindness and respect.
"We believe that we can significantly broaden the reach of respect that Sly Fox has for animals during our Bock Fest by making a donation to the Chester County SPCA," continues the founder of the brewery who first started the popular business in the same township in 1995.
"The Chester County SPCA is overwhelmed by this generous donation for our mission to help the animals," said Chris Shaughness, marketing manager for the Chester County SPCA. "We are most grateful for the continued support from Sly Fox."
Sly Fox Brewhouse and Eatery has consistently supported worthy causes and charities throughout their nearly twenty year run and this donation is emblematic of their support of the community in which they do business.
"We hope our donation goes a long way to helping animals in our community," adds Giannopolous.
