A one-of-a-kind ticketed brunch which will kick off the 17th Anniversary Party at Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery in Phoenixville on Friday, Dec. 14. The Brunch will be prepared by George Bieber of Shorty's Sunflower Caf? in Pottstown, an establishment renowned for its breakfast and brunch offerings.

"George is something of a local culinary legend and we want to celebrate local and regional cuisine as well as our own achievements at this annual day-long party," says brewmaster Brian O'Reilly. The first anniversary brunch in 2010 featured the handiwork of Andrew Deery of Majolica, the highly rated Phoenixville eatery, and Bieber says that alone was enough to get him excited when approached by Sly Fox. "I consider Andrew the best chef in these parts and it is an honor to follow in his footsteps."

Bieber is the "Shorty" of his caf?'s name (a nickname given him as a child that he has long since outgrown), which he founded with his wife Liz in 1996. This summer they added The Sunflower Truck Stop to their brick-and-mortar location, a mobile unit that allows them to "take our caf? experience directly to our customers all over the region."

The name of the vehicle derives from the fact that the Biebers originally planned to add "and Truck Stop" to the caf?'s name (their original location was on a busy truck route) before concluding that could be confusing to truckers who would expect amenities like gas, lodging and supplies. The Sunflower Truck Stop is part of the Phoenixville Farmers' Market every Saturday from 9am-1pm.

The caf? has an active presence in the Pottstown community and has, among other things, run a Meals on Wheels Fundraiser for the last 11 years, raising more than $55,000 for the organization. The Biebers also offer wall space to local artists to showcase their work.

You can see the menu for December 14 here. Bieber says it is still a work in progress. "We're still toying with it a bit. Several of the items are staples at the caf??we make our own English Muffins and Zucchini Bread all the time?and a few are new. I've never made the porridge before, for example. This is going to be great fun and I am really looking forward to it." You can order your tickets online here.

Shorty's Sunflower Caf? (610.970.5111) is located at 1494 North Charlotte Street, Pottstown and is open 6am - 2pm Monday through Friday, 7am- 1pm on weekends.
