Grisette Wins Again
Working class ale recognized for the third time!
The wildly-popular, warm weather offering Grisette Working Class Ale was first canned by the Sly Fox Brewing Company in 2013. In that initial year of its release, the refreshing farmhouse-style ale was awarded a silver medal in the French and Belgian-style Ale category at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival (GABF). It returned the following year to win the gold, and now, in 2015, we're proud to announce that Grisette was once again awarded a silver medal at the country's largest beer competition.

The 2015 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 242 expert judges from the record number of 6,647 entries received from 1,552 U.S. breweries. The GABF represents the largest collection of U.S. beer ever served in a public tasting event, plus a private competition that brings together the brewers and diverse beers that make the U.S. the world's greatest brewing nation.

Grisette was originally brewed for miners in the Walloon region of Belgium, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. Grisette was lighter than Saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt (as does the Sly Fox version). The name is derived from the French word for "gray," referring to both the drab factory frocks worn by the young women (the grisettes) who doled out pints as the men exited from the mines, and also the color of the cobblestone rock being extracted. Grisette will return to the shelves in the spring of 2016.

Ale for the Trail
Brewery donates $4K+ to Schuylkill River Trail
Sly Fox Brewing purposely selected Earth Day 2015 to release their latest product - a new, sessionable pale ale, SRT Ale, named for the Schuylkill River Trail that passes nearby both Sly Fox locations in Phoenixville and Pottstown, PA.

"Beer is being embraced as an effective recovery beverage and everyone loves a good beer after a great adventure," says brewmaster Brian O'Reilly. "SRT Ale's 4.6% ABV also means people can enjoy a beer and keep on being active."

To tie the ale further to the brewery's outdoor ethos, Sly Fox elected to donate a portion of the sale of SRT Ale to an organization that advocates for and maintains the trail. The Schuylkill River Heritage Area (SRHA), also based in Pottstown, uses conservation, education, recreation, historic and cultural preservation and tourism as tools for community revitalization and economic development on and around the Schuylkill River. The top of the SRT Ale can features mile trail markers and names Schuylkill River Trailheads, while the front features the iconic Schuylikill River Trail logo above the Sly Fox logo.

A portion of the proceeds from each case and keg of SRT Ale sold was donated to the SRHA. On September 26, brewmaster Brian O'Reilly presented a $4,018 check to the organization at the brewery's annual free live music concert, Can Jam.
"Every day, the Schuylkill River Heritage Area is working to restore the quality of the Schuylkill River and complete the Schuylkill River Trail, which will one day run 130 miles between Philadelphia and Pottsville," said Silas Chamberlin, the SRHA's executive director. "We're nearly half way there, and we need the help of partners like Sly Fox to help us finish the job."
