29 Area Taverns & Pubs Will Carry This Special Brew
When Sly Fox Brewing Co. announced the availability of its Homefront IPA in late June, brewmaster Brian O'Reilly and his team expected an enthusiastic response from the local market because of the beer's unique beneficial nature: part of the proceeds from each pint honors and supports members of the U.S. Armed Services who served in either Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom and their families.
It turned out that "enthusiastic" was hardly the word for it. "We sold out the entire batch in a single day," reports Director of Sales Patrick Mullin, "29 of our accounts in the city and suburbs signed on immediately and will contribute $1 a pint or $125 a keg to the cause. Adding to that will be significant contributions from both Sly Fox and its wholesaler, Origlio Beverage. When all is said and done, we expect to raise $12,000 or more for the Pennsylvania/Delaware chapter of Operation Homefront."
Operation Homefront is a charity which provides emergency assistance to military families. Sly Fox is one of six breweries around the country which are participating in "Hops for Heroes" this year by brewing Homefront IPA, the signature beer which was created at Fremont Brewing Co. in Seattle last year as a collaborative brew with Center of the Universe Brewing Co.
Other participants in 2012 are: Fremont, St. Arnold (Houston), 21st Amendment (San Francisco), Cigar City (Tampa),Perennial Artisan Ales (St. Louis).
Sly Fox released its version of Homefront just in time for July 4 and accounts will tap the beer whenever it fits into their schedule.
