2009 MAIBOCK RACE HONORS GO TO DAX

Dax, owned by Tana Goodshall and raced by Karl Lorah, was the winner of the 2009 Sly Fox Bock Festival Goat Race at Phoenixville's Pikeland Village Square today in front of a crowd of nearly 2000 fans which would not be deterred by rain and clouds.

The Bock Festival is held on the first Sunday of May every year and the Sly Fox Maibock, released that day and tapped at the end of the championship heat, is named in honor of the winning entry.

Dax beat out Hana and Raul, who tied for second place, in the finals. The winning goat had won the first of the day's four qualifying heats, while the other medalists won the the third and fourth heats. There were 22 goats in the overall competition.

For the first time in the ten year history of the event, disqualifications played a role in determining the finalists as four entries were disqualified in the second round, won by Baby Elfin, because the person running with the goat crossed the finish line before the animal.

In addition to the winning goat earning the honor of having the annual Maibock bearing its name, the owner of the animal receives a $75 gift card good at both Sly Fox locations, Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery in Phoenixville and Sly Fox Brewery and Restaurant in Royersford.
